Fellowship: with Ray Baribeault who recalled the history of the “Blizzard of 78” also known as “Storm Larry” that happened 40 years ago and dumped between 28”-36” of snow on Eastern Connecticut. The roads were closed for 3 days and there were snow drifts up to 18 feet in places. 180 deaths across New England were blamed on the storm. It was the worst blizzard since the “Blizzard of 88”, 1888 and not 1988. That blizzard dumped 36 inches.

Announcements:
  • Rotary at NFA is next Wednesday. There will be a shuttle from the Sachem Street Campus to the Main Campus at Noon and 12:15. There will also be a Board Meeting across the street at The Arc before the regular Club Meeting.
  •  Bourbon Tasting event now called the “Culture for Coats” Event will be held on April 30th at Three Rivers College 5:30 to 7:30. Mark your calendars.
  • The Rotary Golf Tournament will be played on September 5th, 2018.
  • Please contact Mary Richardson or Kevin Wickless if you have a guest speaker you would like to propose.
  • The Rotary district Conference will be held in Burlington, VT June 1 – 3.
  • Diversity Day First Planning Meeting will be on March 12th.
  • The “No Show Gala” is a little over half way to its goal. Members can give online or speak to Mike Cooney to buy your way out of going. Pony up everyone.

Rodney kicked things off giving everyone a piece of advice to not pick up their snow blowers on their own. Rodney picked his snow blower a number of times during the last storm and really wrenched his back and neck. He also said the Chestnut Street Playhouse will be having another play coming in mid-February.
 
Kathleen Stauffer commented that businesses and organizations still have to pay their people even when it snows.
 
Andy Nollman very graciously congratulated the Eagles on a well-played Super Bowl.
 
Bonnie Hong reminded people that the Blizzard of 78 really started on January 31st of that year. She wished Kathleen a Happy Birthday. She welcomed her guest Dan. She also said she is undergoing medical tests for severe pains in her chest and abdomen.
 
Mike Cooney said that his daughter Katie was home sick earlier this week. He fed her hotdogs and Oreo’s. She loved them. Mike also said he was born during the Blizzard of 78.  
  
 
AuctionKyle Muenzer auctioned off a $50 Ace Hardware Gift Card for Andy Grant. Andy Nollman was the high bidder at $30.00.
