FellowshipBarry talked about William Buckingham, Mayor, Governor and United States Senator from Norwich.  There is a statue of him in the State Capitol.  Barry is pleased that the cannon on the front lawn of Buckingham’s home is pointed at Chelsea Groton Bank.

Kevin brought his Dad, Larry Wickless, from Florida to the meeting.
Visiting Rotarians
  • Kevin Reich, our Assistant District Governor and
  • Carol Williams from the East Hampton club.
  • Please silence cell phones and no loud chewing of gum during meetings.
  • Andrew reported that Suki Lagrito of Global City Norwich is interested in becoming a member of the club.
  • Next Diversity Day Planning Committee meeting is scheduled for August 20th @ 2:00 pm at the Savings Institute.  Barry reminded the club that the Diversity event is September 17th and that the Peace Pole event is on September 20th.
  • The Rotary Golf Tournament will be held on September 5th.  We still need golfers.
  • Please contact Mary Richardson or Kevin Wickless if you have a guest speaker in mind. They are currently in negotiations with the Dalai Lama.
  • The Happy Dollars Fund is available for needy recipients.  Please contact any member of the committee.
  • The Food Packaging event will be held on November 10th this year and will be a joint event with the Norwich Sunrise Rotary Club.  Contact Jen Granger for details.
Happy Dollars:  with Jen who gave for National Community Health Center Week and for the Business After Hours that was to be held in UCFS’s new Griswold site.
Pres. Jim will be vacationing in Vancouver and Alaska which include Mount Denali. 
Bill Champagne found information about William Buckingham who was also our Vice President for a time.
Andrew gave for our guests and for his upcoming vacation in Stonington.
Kevin welcomed our guests and for his father.
Kyle will be away during September in Alabama and then away again in Colorado.
Mike Cooney had a great time with his family in New Hampshire on vacation.
Barry’s daughter is visiting from California.  She serves by providing sandwiches to homeless people in Santa Ana.
ADG Kevin Reich was happy to visit our club.

Carol Williams, District Chair for the Youth Exchange Program, shared information, including the objectives of the Program:
  • Further international goodwill and understanding
  • Enable students to advance their education
  • Give students opportunities to broaden their outlook
  • Have students act as ambassadors
  • Provide sufficient time to study and observe another country's culture
Our incoming student for this year is “Jennifer” from Taiwan.  Kevin and Michele are coordinating details of her stay with Carol.
